Somewhere in the north-central portion of Texas lies Dallas, occupying an area of 342 square miles. Dallas is pretty much known for its many lakes, providing a stunning background and a tranquil atmosphere which, needless to say, are conducive to learning.

There are many universities and colleges in Dallas, but if you are not yet ready to go to a four-year regular school, you may consider applying to community colleges in Dallas.

Some people are concerned about the quality of education offered at community colleges, but as you know these colleges are equipped with the some of the best minds in the land. Moreover, community colleges provide a less stressful environment, and they are also cheaper. Forming part of the Dallas County Community College District are El Centro College in Main Street, Mountain View College and Richland College. These community colleges in Dallas provide two-year programs and enable a smooth transition to a four-year course.

El Centro College offers liberal arts courses and education programs suitable for students who wish to proceed to college and also for adults who desire cultural enrichment. At El Centro, one is given the option to study online or to take advantage of distance education. Support and counseling services are also offered. Financial help is also available in the form of student loans, government grants, and work-study programs.

Mountain View College specializes in undergraduate courses in arts and sciences. It also offers two-year technical programs, training programs, education programs for adults, and many others. Students can always take advantage of the various support services available so they will not feel overwhelmed. While the cost of tuition and other fees are decidedly lower, there are still many people who cannot afford it, in which case, they can opt to apply for financial assistance.

Richland College boasts of a diverse community and some 30 years of providing quality education to its students, helping them map out their future. Around 15,000 students coming from different cultural backgrounds are enrolled in Richland. In 2005, Richland received the prestigious Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award, an award that no other community college has received yet. The College values its students and recognizing them as individuals with a mind of their own, encourages freedom of expression.
