As the largest state in the US and the second most populous, Texas does have plenty to boast of, educational institutions among them. There is a multitude of choices out there, but of course, if the quality of education means a lot to you, you may have to limit your choices to the following:

1. Rice University in Houston. Rice sets a high standard when selecting its students. Apparently, not everyone who applies gets admitted to the school. Rice is particularly known for its computer science courses, as well as physics, and biomedical engineering courses. If you choose to board in one of the campus dormitories, you will need to prepare $7,660.

4. Southern Methodist University in Dallas. This University provides an excellent ground for students who want to go into law, business, theology, and the arts. Getting admitted to the school is not easy, but that only serves to ensure that the school wants to maintain the highest standards of education it is known for. Cost of tuition is $30,880 a year, while board and lodging can amount to $10,825 a year.

5. Baylor University in Waco. Baylor University is more selective of its students. The school’s forte are in the areas of music, theology, nursing and social work. Annual tuition runs to $24,490 while room and board cost an additional $7,526.

6. Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. This Christian University sets high standards when it comes to its students. That is why getting admitted to the school can be tough. Tuition is pegged at $24,868 a year, but if you choose to stay in the dorm within the campus, that is going to cost you another $8,200. Courses in divinity, business, health sciences and communication are popular options in Texas Christian University.

7. Trinity University in San Antonio. This, too, makes a very careful selection of its students. Areas of specialization include art courses, international studies and linguistics. Tuition is around $23,136 a year.

8. University of Texas in Dallas. As a state university, tuition is expectedly low for state residents at $4,030 annually. For non-residents of the state, tuition is still low when compared to other universities and colleges in Texas at $9,084. Housing options for freshmen, though limited are affordable, too, at only $426 a month per person. This university is known for its rather competitive process of admission and its courses in engineering, mathematics, computer science and engineering.
